25. Technology DVC (Week 10)

Kia Ora, Reader.

Last week (week 10), in my technology class, DVC, we created Tie Dye Shirts.

When entering class, our teacher, Ms Rodger, introduced us to Tie Dye. I’ve done tie dying before, only once though. There were buckets of dye, and a box filled with plain white shirts in all sizes, Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. I chose Extra Large so I can grow into it as I grow up.☺

Our teacher then showed us photos of examples of tie dye shirts / patterns. If I can remember there was a Spiral pattern, Bulls eye, Crumple and more but can’t remember. I stuck with the original and attempted to do a spiral. Surprisingly the process of dying shirts is very quick, I expected it to take forever. Everyone finished before I could even blink. After dying we went on the devices and animated because we had nothing else to do.

Surely today (Monday) we’re finishing off our shirts – I’ll keep you updated on my next post tomorrow, thank you for reading.

25. DVC Stained Glass – Technology

Kia ora, Reader.

This week for Technology, we’ve made stained glass.

We started off being introduced to Stained Glass, by our teacher. She had this sheet of plastic clear paper like thing, and traced on it using a permanent marker. She had a template of a drawing beneath the clear plastic like paper, to trace over. The template papers are optional. Then she ripped a piece of scrap paper to use as a paint pallet to add paint and mix Mod Podge to make it shiny. Once she had the pallet, she painted onto the clear sheet of paper, and told us to add thick blobs of paint, as a thin layer of paint wont look that great in the sunlight.

If you made a mistake on the clear sheet, simply use a cloth to wipe it off, or if you want to restart, rinse your plastic sheet under water. If you made a mistake on tracing with a permanent  marker, use a whiteboard marker to trace over your mistake and wipe off.

With my project, I made a pink and yellow tulip with a blue butterfly, and traced using a template. Next Monday, I’m positive we’re finishing off our stained glass project.

Thanks for reading, have you done something similar to this before? Let me knowww.

25. DVC Keychains – TECHNOLOGY (2:2)

Kia Ora Reader.

WALT: Recall what we’ve done at tech.

This week on Monday, we had Technology – DVC.

What we’ve done was create key-chains using a plastic material that could shrink under heat and harden.

We had to use draft paper to draw whatever we want then trace it on the plastic material on a specific side and colour it with coloured pencils. Once that’s done, we cut around our piece of art on the plastic material, and pass it to the teacher to pinch holes to lather the key-chain through it. After pinching the holes, she takes our art pieces to an oven to bake in until it shrinks and hardens.

Once it’s shrunken and hardened, we’re given key chains to attach onto our art pieces for the finishing touches.

That’s pretty much all,  thank you for reading!

25. Technology Painting (2:1)

WALT: Recall what we’ve done at tech.

Yesterday on Monday, we were given our clay bowls made from last week Monday to paint. When we arrived, we did what we always do, like putting our bags aside, sitting by the tables and doing the roll call. Our teacher you may know her by now if you read my blog, Ms.Rodgers, had the tray with our clay creations on it. She then showed us examples on screen of what we’d like to paint our bowls into. There were various designs like, Fruits, Cultural patterns, Landscapes, animals, ECT.

I really liked the Idea of a watermelon, so I chose to paint my bowl so. With my design I wanted it to look a bit realistic, with that I added dark green stripes on the exterior similar to what a watermelon has on the outside, then red on the inside as the watermelons flesh, with a small black looking tear drops to recreate seeds. As we’re painting however, we had to blow dry the paint in between so that the paint doesn’t mix.

Once our creations were dry, we used mod podge I believe to coat around our project to protect it from water or something. Once we’ve coated the modpodge everywhere, we’ve set it aside back on the tray, then people volunteered to help blow dry the modpodge so we can bring our project home early. Now that our creations were dried (most of  them were) we took photos with it and put it in our bag to take home. After that we cleaned the classroom and went outside to do a prayer with the other groups and went home.

I believe that’s all, thank you for reading. 😁

25. Clay Making in Technology (SUPERFUN) (3)

Kia ora, Reader. This week on Monday during our technology class – DVC (Design Visual Communicate), we were using clay on the pottery wheel, and I’ll ensure you it was a fun experience.

When we arrived at our technology class, we put our bags aside then our teacher, Ms Rodgers, started the lesson with a roll call. After the roll call, she had thick oblongs of clay in a bag, then used a wire to slice the thick clay into fair square pieces. As she was slicing clay, she gave it to us to pass down the table until everyone received one.

Ms Rodger advanced to instruct us to flatten the clay. Then she used an empty jar to imprint onto the clay to create a circle with it. With the extra clay outside of the jar imprint however, she used it to go around the circle by flatting horizontally (Hopefully that makes sense). Then we had to smooth the inside and outside to create a bowl! Nonetheless, all of this was just a practice because after that, she asked who wanted to use the clay wheel by putting their hand up (almost everyone did except like a few).

Let me tell you about my experience with the Pottery Wheel – As I was observing another student using it, I knew it was their first time using it, but it looked like they got the hang of it quite easily, making me feel fairly better because I have to admit, I was scared using the machine at first because I didn’t want to mess things up. But when Ms Rodger was directing me, she made it look easy so I had hope.  As soon as I hopped on, it was really easy, maybe because Ms Rodger previously shaped a bowl for me to finish, but I had false nails on so I used my knuckles to sculpt it. My feedback on this experience, I would do it again without nails because my nails kinda ruined the thing.

Have you ever used a Pottery Wheel?

Thank you for reading.

25. Clay Making in Technology (2)

– WALT; Recall what we’ve done at Tech.

Last week on Monday, we were using clay to create our very own fridge magnets. (It was optional if we wanted to do fridge magnets.)

Now that the clay has dried from last week, this week Monday we were able to paint it – MS. R or Ms Rodger (Or Roger) mentioned about some of our clay sculptures cracking / breaking, sadly those being both my sculptures, so I used hot glue to stick them back together (hot glue is obviously not strong enough to hold heavy sculptures up, hot glue was the only option.). Once I glued both my sculptures together, we moved onto painting. Before we start painting, we clearly have to prepare our paint brushes and paint.

There were various colours of paint, being – Pink, Green, Yellow, Blue, Brown, Red.. ect, though – we had to use paper as pallets as there were too many of us to receive an actual pallet each. One thing about the paint though, was that the colours looked too bright-ish,(except the brown colour) which doesn’t suit my vibe, but I coped with it. We then grabbed ourselves paint brushes, then jars filled with water.

My two sculptures I made were A Religious Cross and Fried Chicken, I painted the cross Dark Blue and the fried chicken brown and left the bone white. I eventually crumbled my cross creation because I got angry on how it wouldn’t stick together. My fried chicken creation however, survived as a fridge magnet.
