Kia Ora, Reader! On Monday, a special individual from ASB St Johns In Schools came to our school to show life saving demonstrations just in case we were ever in a death threatening situation.
She showed us how to perform CPR with fake dummies. (Dummies are fake dolls) then we were given fake scenarios to act out. (On my DLO there is info on how to do CPR! Check it out!!)
These fake scenarios were cards telling you stories of what you would do if ____ happened – E.G : You’re cooking with your siblings in the kitchen then your brother / sister burns their hand. What would you do to help? – in this situation, the first thing to do is get them away from anything that could potentially worsen their burn. Run their burn under water for 20 minutes it has to be cold and it has to be 20 minutes (!!), but if their burn is large, take action and call for help, Emergency number, 111. After running it under COLD water, wrap it with specifically cling wrap, because other things like cotton could potentially infect the burn. Do NOT pop any blisters, let professionals do it. After cling wrapping, call for help and get a responsible adult to take action as pandemics come. Sometimes if the burn isn’t as bad, calling 111 isn’t really necessary. But if very bad then calling is necessary.
If someone breaks their bone and no responsible person is around, the best thing to do is to check theirs and your surroundings if it’s safe around. Next get that person on the floor, make sure they don’t put motion into their fractured part, get or find TWO pieces of clothing and roll them up to tight sausages and align the clothing to their broken part – BUT be sure to try not to move their fractured part, as it’ll hurt! Then call for help and find responsible adults who could potentially help.
In a situation where someone is getting an asthma attack, Calmly take them to sit somewhere, check their posture and make sure its straight, CALMLY take their inhaler tell them to puff around 6 times then breathe after every 6 puffs and calmly give it to them, do NOT panic during these, as they can potentially panic with you and struggle to breathe more. Get help immediately, but do it in secret and calmly I recommend, because you’ll stress them out if they know you’re calling for help because they’ll become aware that they’re in need of help which could stress them. Do these quickly if possible.
Lastly, if ever positioned somewhere where someone is getting a stroke, use the FAST method!
F – Face, asking them to smile and seeing if one face is drooping, that’s a sign.
A – Arms, tell them to lift their arms straight up, are they able to do both?
S – Speech, when questioning when is their birthday, their way of saying it might be slurred, which is a sign.
T – Take action, Call 111 Immediately!

Thank you for reading! Hope these could teach you about what to do in every situation, be sure to check out my DLO linked just above, just tell me if you don’t have access to it.
